Privacy Policy
The short version
- Transcripts are read in your browser. When you ask for an AI summary or translation, the video's title and transcript are sent to our server and our AI provider to produce it, and are not stored afterwards.
- If you sign in, we keep your Google account ID, your email address, your plan, and how many summaries you used this week.
- Your saved summaries and settings stay in your own browser.
- Payments are handled by Stripe. We never see your card number.
- We don't sell your data, show ads, or use tracking or analytics tools.
1. Who we are
Insightube is a Chrome extension that shows YouTube transcripts and creates AI summaries, insights, speaker viewpoints and translations. It is operated by FREEOCLOCK LIMITED, Hong Kong ("we", "us"). Questions about this policy go to support@insightube.com.
2. What we collect
| Data | When | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Video title and transcript text | Only when you click Summarize or Translate | To create the summary or translation. Passed through our server to our AI provider and not stored by us. |
| Google account ID and email address | When you sign in with Google | To identify your account, apply your plan, and contact you about billing or support. |
| Plan and subscription status | When you subscribe to Pro | To unlock Pro features. Includes the Stripe customer and subscription IDs, renewal date and plan interval. |
| Usage counts | Each AI summary you request | To apply the free limit (3 a week) and fair-use limits. We store a number per week or day, not what you summarized. |
| A random installation ID and your IP address | With each AI request | To limit abuse (requests per minute). Used for rate limiting only and not stored in our database. |
We do not collect your YouTube watch history, browsing history, the pages you visit, or the contents of other tabs. The extension only runs on YouTube pages.
3. What stays on your device
These are kept in your browser's extension storage and are not sent to us:
- Saved summaries (your History), including any translations you made. Up to 500 are kept; the oldest are removed first.
- Settings such as preferred transcript languages, translation language and summary language. Chrome may sync these between your own devices if you use Chrome sync.
- Your sign-in session, a signed token that lets the extension talk to our server as you.
Removing the extension deletes this data from your browser.
4. How we use it
- To provide summaries, insights, speaker viewpoints and translations you ask for.
- To run your account, apply free and Pro limits, and process subscriptions.
- To prevent abuse and keep the service running.
- To answer your support requests.
We don't use your data for advertising, profiling, or to train AI models.
5. Who we share it with
We share data only with the service providers needed to run Insightube:
- OpenRouter, which routes the video title and transcript to the AI model that writes your summary or translation. We do not send your email or account details. See OpenRouter's privacy policy.
- Stripe, which processes Pro payments and stores your payment details. See Stripe's privacy policy.
- Google, which provides sign-in. See Google's privacy policy.
- Cloudflare, which hosts our server and database. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.
We may disclose data if the law requires it. We never sell personal data.
6. Google user data
When you sign in, Insightube asks Google only for your basic profile identifier and email address (the openid and email scopes). We use them only to create and identify your Insightube account. We don't access your Gmail, Drive, YouTube account or any other Google data.
Insightube's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. The same applies to the Chrome Web Store Limited Use policy: we don't transfer this data to others except as described in section 5, don't use it for advertising, and don't allow people to read it except with your permission, for security, or where the law requires.
7. How long we keep it
- Transcripts and AI output: not stored on our server after the response is sent.
- Account and plan: while your account exists. Ask us to delete it at any time.
- Usage counts: kept while your account exists, and deleted with it.
- Billing records: kept by Stripe as required for tax and accounting.
8. Your choices and rights
- Use transcripts without an account. Signing in is only needed for AI features.
- Sign out at any time in the extension's settings.
- Cancel your subscription in Settings → Manage subscription.
- Ask for a copy of your data, a correction, or deletion of your account by emailing support@insightube.com from the address you signed in with. We reply within 30 days.
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR, the UK GDPR, the California Consumer Privacy Act or Hong Kong's Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance), you may have further rights, including to object to processing or complain to your local data protection authority.
9. Security
Data travels over HTTPS. Sign-in sessions are signed tokens, payment details stay with Stripe, and access to our server's secret keys is restricted. No system is perfectly secure, and we will tell affected users promptly if a breach affects their data.
10. Children
Insightube is not intended for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has signed up, contact us and we'll delete the account.
11. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. For significant changes we'll also tell signed-in users in the extension before they take effect.
